Flourish Foundation
Since 2010, Flourish Foundation has implemented youth and adult programming that focuses on the cultivation of attention skills, human values, and inner resiliency. Fundamental to the Flourish approach is the understanding that our mental life determines the way in which we view and behave in the world.
Historically, our largest programs have been focused on youth and education. In embracing the words of Nelson Mandela, we believe, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
Our Mindful Awareness program teaches mindfulness in the Blaine County School District and is offered in over 50 classes per week. It serves students with a 25-week curriculum, engaging with nearly 1000 students and teachers per week to create a kinder wiser world!
In addition to in-school programming, we have a leadership program for juniors and seniors in high school called the Compassionate leader's program. Compassionate Leaders engage in weekly meetings that impart skills in focused attention, kindness, and compassion through discussions on ethics, values, meditation practice, and activities that strengthen human connections. The compassionate Leaders read several books throughout the year, including Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World, by the Dalai Lama, Happiness, by Matthieu Ricard, and a selection of articles that critically examine the impact and complications of "voluntourism." At the end of the school year, Compassionate Leaders engage in immersion trips to collaborate with other communities around the world. So far, we have worked with communities in India, Mexico, Mississippi, Morocco, Philippines and the remote wilderness of Idaho. On these trips, students implement projects that promote sustainability, education, and well-being. These trips are funded through a collaborative effort!
